Eco-Behaviour
The fundamentals of Eco-Behaviour
Waste must be seen as a resource to be used and not as trash that must be thrown away.
There
are many different methods of producing new resources from waste: for
example raw materials can be extracted from waste then recycled
(=re-using materials), or they can be burned to generate electricity.
- Point Vert Eco-Emballages (green point eco-packaging scheme)
Products featuring a Point Vert show that the company participates in financing the re-use of household waste.
By
contributing to the Eco-Emballages program, companies comply with the
law that states that they must take part in the recycling of the
packaging they put onto the market.
The funds raised by Eco-Emballages are
given to local communities and are used to set up local recycling points
for household waste all over France.
Please note that packaging featuring the Point Vert may not all be recycled.
Before putting it in a container for recycled waste, it is important to check that it appears in the recycling guide.
- Sustainable management of forests
This means that forests are managed in a way
that focuses on their biological diversity, their productivity,
potential for regeneration and their ability to meet their own needs and
those of humans.
This is a preventative, global process that
reduces the negative impact of a product on the environment, by avoiding
the creation of other impacts up or downstream. It is called pollution
transfer.
Also called biological diversity, biodiversity
makes up the planet's living tissue. It covers all life forms on Earth
(on land and in the sea, in towns and the countryside and includes human
beings), the relationships that exist between them and their habitats
since the beginning of life itself.
- Glass
Glass packaging can all be put into the glass recycling bin.
(The
Huile Prodigieuse bottle without its cap or the Crème Nirvanesque jar
may be put into the recycling bin, without its plastic lid, which must
be put into the container for household waste.)
- Plastic
In France today, only bottles made of plastic can be recycled.
(e.g.:
Flacons from the Facial Cleansing Gel or Shampoo must be put into the
plastic recycling bin, but the tube from Crème Fraîche light should be
disposed of with household waste).
- Cardboard
This must be put into the recycling bin.
(Your product boxes or brochures given by your pharmacist may be put into the cardboard and paper recycling bin after use).
- PET
PET or polyethylene terephtalate is a mostly transparent plastic used for many purposes (e.g. mineral water bottles).
PET
is a recyclable plastic: Bottles and flacons made of PET are
transformed into fibers (polyester) for padding comforters, in the
automobile industry, for insulating flat roofs, and may also be re-used
for bottles or other kinds of packaging.
- PEHD
PEHD or high density polyethylene is a generally opaque plastic that is used for fruit juice or detergent bottles.
PEHD
is a kind of recyclable plastic, and the bottles are turned into tubes,
swimming pool casing, containers, urban furniture or laundry detergent
bottles, etc.
- PP
PP or Polypropylene is a tough, resistant plastic.
It is used to make tubs (butter, margarine), yogurt pots or baby bottles.
PP is also recyclable.
