10 superfoods

(NaturalNews) In case you're curious, here's what I'm buying and using right now from the realm of superfood supplements. But before I get to that list, please note that my No. 1 source for superfood is actually my local grocery store where I buy fresh, organic blueberries, raspberries, celery, lettuce greens, yams, avocados and other fresh produce. That gets turned into fresh veggie juice or a steamed yam dinner with a side of quinoa flavored with fresh herbs and sea salt.

What I'm talking about in this article are the superfood products beyond the fresh produce I buy at the grocery store. These are the items I purchase online or through local health food stores such as Whole Foods. For each item I mention here, I'll list at least one source. When one of the sources is our own NaturalNews Store, I'll try to list a second source, too, so you have more options in where to get any of these items that might interest you.

#1) Boku Superfood powder

This superfood powder remains one of my all-time favorites. It's loaded with minerals, organic green foods and phytonutrient-rich plant powders, and it goes great with any chocolate smoothie. It's a good value, too, considering the quality of its ingredients. USDA certified organic.
 
#2) Rejuvenate Plus superfood powderAnother amazing superfood powder I'm using every day is Rejuvenate Plus from Dr Hank Liers. This is a high-RNA superfood that's just amazing in terms of its nutrition. Also goes great with any chocolate smoothie. I sometimes blend it with fruit smoothies as well. We just happen to still have this at a significant discount at our store, by the way.

I also happen to really love Vitamineral Green from HealthForce.com. I don't use it every day currently, but I reach for it at least 2-3 times a week.
 
#3) Living Fuel berry superfood powderThis great-tasting superfood powder has remained one of my most reliable and trusted superfoods for the last several years. I've traveled with it all over the world, and it has kept me fed and nourished in airports, hotels and conferences. It's not cheap, but it offers really good nutrition that tastes great just mixed with water.



#4) X-Balance chocolate superfoodX-Balance chocolate superfood remains one of my top favorites. This is simply the most delicious chocolate superfood on the market today. I like it better than Amazing Grass (which is also a good brand, by the way), and I know and trust the owner of this company (SGN Nutrition).

It's positioned as "superfood for kids" but I must still be a kid at heart because I love drinking this with raw almond milk.

We used to sell this at our NaturalNews Store, but I don't see it there right now which probably means we are sold out (we had it at a great price, but that's apparently gone now). This happens quite often, due to the low prices we often offer on these great products.

#5) Cold-pressed coconut oilCoconut oil is my favorite plant-based fat. I often drop a tablespoon of coconut oil into my smoothies. I also cook with it, as it's one of the very best oils for resisting heat-generated carcinogens (it has greater temperature resistance than all other plant-based oils).

It's wonderful for making sauces, too: Try mixing and gently heating coconut oil, liquid aminos, vinegar and water, and you have a delicious sauce for quinoa, stir-fried Chinese vegetables or other dishes.
 
#6) Ground flax seedsEven though I don't like the taste of flax seeds as much as I like chia seeds, I still find myself using ground flax seeds in most of my smoothies and cold cereals (like "Chia Goodness" from Ruth's Hemp Foods, see below).

Flax seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids, and they contain other beneficial phytonutrients as well. Ground flax seeds are called "linaza" in Spanish, and when I lived in Ecuador, linaza was the newest health food craze sweeping the nation (and selling at unbelievably high prices, too). Even in the USA, I notice Spanish-labeled linaza products are now suddenly popular among the Latino crowd. That's good news because diabetes is rampant among many Latinos living in America (from their consumption of sodas and junk food).

#8) Boku Superfood chocolate fudge bars!I've been going crazy over the Boku Superfood chocolate fudge brownie bars which just came out. These are some of the best organic superfood bars that have ever been made by anyone.

#9) Chia seedsChia seeds remain one of my top superfoods because they're naturally high in omega-3 fatty acids, and they taste great! (Better than flax seeds, in my view.) They also form a nice "gel" matrix when soaked in water, making them outstanding for raw cereals, smoothies and even thickening healthy tea drinks.

#10) Rice bran solubles I'm loving the rice brain solubles ("tocotrienols") . They're made from stabilized rice bran (and germ), and they're rich in vitamin E, protein and fatty acids. This is basically the most nutrient-rich part of the rice grain, without all the carbohydrates of rice.

It has a rich, nutty taste and it's great for smoothies, cereals and many recipes.

Stabilized rice bran is also available on Amazon.com and other retailers. You might even find it at Whole Foods or health food stores, too. Look for "tocotrienols."

Bonus item: Mineral-rich kelp noodles

I've only been using these for a few weeks, but I'm really loving these kelp noodles because they're rich in sea minerals and yet they somehow contain only 6 calories per serving!

These are the ultimate noodles for anyone looking to maintain a healthy weight, in my view. I've been adding them to soups and steamed vegetable dishes. They're great because they fill your belly and make you "feel" full without packing any serious calories. It probably takes more calories to eat and digest these kelp noodles than they actually deliver (just 6 per serving).

Their flavor is "neutral," so they work with almost anything. They're even great in raw lettuce salads, too! They add a texture to almost any food. Extremely versatile.

Putting it all together

So those are the top ten superfoods I'm eating right now. Of course, I'm not living on these superfood powders: I also buy and consume frozen blueberries and raspberries, fresh juice made from carrots, celery and kale, boiled quinoa, baked yams, steamed broccoli and other similar dishes.

My rule about food is first, eat REAL food. Second, supplement it with superfoods to increase your nutrient density. And third, buy organic wherever possible and avoid highly processed foods like the plague. Anything that's artificially altered (homogenized, hydrogenated, hydrolyzed, etc.) or contains chemical additives (food colors, MSG, aspartame, etc.) is to be avoided entirely.

It's a simple yet powerful formula for healthy eating. And it's part of the reason why I carry no health insurance and never visit doctors. Why would I? I eat anti-cancer foods every day, so my risk of cancer is practically zero. I follow a healthy, living foods diet that's rich in nutrients, so my risk of heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's, liver disorders and other diseases is also about as close to zero as you can reasonably get in modern society.

I let my food be my medicine, and in doing so, I save about a thousand dollars a month compared to the expenditures of a typical consumer who's buying health insurance and prescription drugs.

Care to guess where I spend that thousand dollars a month? You guessed it: On organic foods and superfood products!

That's my health insurance: Real food, superfood and exercise. It works a whole lot better than Obamacare for me. Plus, I never have to wait in line at the doctor's office or the pharmacy. That saves all kinds of time that I'd rather spend writing articles for folks like you!
